If you haven't heard already... I have a big announcement.
We have a new baby boy! He is 9 weeks old and is finally sleeping throughout the night without a peep. His favorite food is bacon and he licks and loves everyone he meets. Well... the baby is very furry with four legs and has a tail. And if you haven't figured it out already or somehow have missed my thumbnail or me obsessively posting him on my Instagram or Snapchat... the baby is a teddy bear looking Cavapoo puppy. His name is Otis but we call him Odie for short and I am so in love!
How it all started
I have always been a dog kinda gal and knew I needed to wait to find the perfect time for the perfect pup. Roberto's sisters all have dogs so whenever we would hang out at family gatherings we knew our puppy was missing. I did some research for a hypoallergenic dog that is smaller in size so they would be easy to travel with. Once I saw the Cavapoo breed I knew that I was in the right direction. I found the sweetest breeder in Ohio named Dwaine on a site called apuppysalenow.com. He was very helpful in giving us all the advice and answers we needed to proceed to getting a puppy. Dwaine had a litter of five puppies but one stood out to him the most amongst the others. His name was Cody with white little markings, the prettiest red curly hair, and the friendliest demeanor. We were SOLD! Roberto and I put the deposit down and immediately shared the news with all of our friends and family. Roberto's sister Rebecca and brother-in-law Ryan recently moved to Ohio so they instantly volunteered to check out Cody and give him all the hugs before he made his trip over to the west coast.
These pictures were the first close up photos of Cody aka Odie and our hearts exploded. We were so excited to meet this little guy!
The day we got him
This morning felt like a Christmas morning. We woke up early (unintentionally, just so excited) and prepared a list of items we should get as soon as we got him. The drive from LA to Orange County was two hours so we listened to Creative Dog Training Podcasts all the way down. We also tried coming up with the "perfect name". Roberto really wanted to name the puppy Kobe after Kobe Bryant of course... but I wasn't really feeling that name. Sorry bebe. We had a whole list in mind from "Mason" to "Theo" but the name "Otis" really stuck out to us for a particular reason. Odys and Penelope is one of Roberto's and I's favorite restaurants in West Hollywood not just because of the amazing food (we are huge foodies) but because that is where we first met and fell in love. As soon as we saw the little puppy in Orange County we knew that the name Otis (Odie) suited him best. We were head over heels in love with our little Odie. The whole five hour car ride back we FaceTimed all of our family and friends to show them their newest family member.
It is crazy to see how much a puppy can grow and learn within a couple of weeks. Odie is now 10 weeks old and has already achieved so many milestones. He is 90% potty trained, goes up and down stairs, jumps on the couch all by himself, and can run without tumbling over his little legs. The third month of a puppy’s life is the most important stage for bonding, brain development, and training so it hasn't been a cake walk... Lemme tell ya.. However, Having a little teddy bear to come home to is so much fun and watching him grow is even better.
Meet odtis (Odie)
I absolutely adore my little fur ball and am so excited to experience his "firsts" with him like taking him to his first dog beach or teaching him new tricks. Do you guys have any training tips or anything I need to try? Let me know in the comments or DM me on Instagram. I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Follow Otis on @theperfpet on Instagram to catch more pictures of him! Or add me on snap to watch videos of Odie at "carleighcraparo")
