I Tried A Juice Cleanse And Here's What Happened

I currently live in Los Angeles and I am totally guilty of doing all things a typical “LA girl” will do such as being a Soul Cycle lover, obsessing over Alfred’s Oat Milk Latte, and I will choose a vegan restaurant over any restaurant any day. LA has always been a trendsetting city and when it comes to health and wellness, they’ve got it. One thing that has been really popular in this city are juices and juice cleanses. To fully reach the final “LA girl” stage and officially declare myself as an “LA girl”, I was to try the famous juice cleanse. And yes ladies and gentlemen, I took the challenge. I decided to test out the Skinny Cleanse from Raw Generation Juices. I wanted to give you guys a full look into what it was really like and how I survived without eating pizza (I’m so proud of myself tbh).

I really wanted to attempt this juice cleanse because I felt like I needed to refresh my body and get summer-body ready sooner than later because we are going to Hawaii in a couple of weeks. My body desperately needed to hit a reset button and I was very interested in incorporating more juices into my everyday life. Juicing can be a great way to give your digestive system a break, reduce produce waste, supply a ton of vitamins and nutrients, and get rid of all the toxins in our bodies.

Before I started, I asked my followers on Instagram for advice on how to prepare myself for a juice cleanse. One response that I received was about how dangerous juicing can be for your body. I wanted to look more into depth on this because I wanted to make sure what I was doing was right for my body. Some argue that a juice cleanse can include an unsustainable weight loss, blood sugar swings, it can be expensive, you miss out on fiber, and your body can naturally detox every day. With taking that into consideration, I wanted to make sure that I was getting the proper nutrients and making my results worthwhile. And here’s how I did that…

Pre Cleanse:

Before I started I was advised by the RAW Generation team to eat healthy before so my body can easily adjust. I tried to keep my diet vegan and go after foods that I knew would respond well to my body. I basically become a swollen mess if I eat gluten or dairy so I ate mainly rice, fruits, veggies, and maybe the occasional lean protein. One thing I found difficult was to schedule my cleanse around days that I had the fewest obligations and wouldn’t require me to exert a ton of energy. Once I scheduled my cleanse, I was able to plan my fridge in advance and get my body prepared. I made sure to go to the grocery store and stock up on raw vegetables and nuts because I was allowed to munch on that if I was craving a chewable food. I knew that I might feel groggy or tired if I didn’t get the proper amount of sleep, so I made sure to get at least the full 8 hours worth right before the cleanse. Oh, and drink a TON of water beforehand because hydration is key before and throughout the juice cleanse process!


During The Cleanse:

This past year I have been practicing intermittent fasting. To be honest, I did not intend to do intermittent fasting for dieting purposes, I just fell into doing it because I really wasn’t hungry in the mornings. I would wake up around 8 AM and my body wouldn’t want to eat till 12 or 1 PM. I just started to eat when my body wanted to and I have already noticed a difference in my body and how I feel throughout the day (it oddly works). With that being said, I would normally drink my juice around 12 or 1PM and if I got hungry I would have the next one (which would probably be a couple hours after my first one).

One thing I worried about was if I was allowed to have my coffee fix in the AM. Luckily, for those that are doing the RAW Generation juice cleanse like me, we are allowed to continue drinking it! There is one stipulation, it is recommended to have it black. RAW Generation even offers their own cold brew coffees that include black, creamy, sweet and creamy, and it’s all dairy and gluten free. I normally drink my coffee black so it wasn’t something out of the ordinary for me to do (I know, I’m a freak).

I really loved this cleanse because I didn’t have a specific order in which I needed to drink the juices and I could drink as many bottles a day as I want to. It was amazing having the freedom to rely on what my body and tastebuds wanted. My favorite juice by far was surprisingly the green Energy and Endurance Juice that was filled with natural apple juice, kale juice, spinach juice, collard green juice, lemon juice and filtered water. YUM. All of them were really easy to drink and I never had that moment where I had to chase it down my throat like a tequila shot. We all know that feeling, right?


Also, I feel like I already pee more than the average person and this cleanse definitely took it to another level. Combined with my excessive water consumption and juice cleanse, I found myself heading to the bathroom at least every hour if not every 30 minutes. Is that excessive? Honestly, what is the normal amount of times to pee anyways? haha.

To be honest, I had to keep myself entertained the times I was craving anything super carb-like (pizza, chips, fries, you name it). When I became REALLY hungry I would make sure to munch on some almonds and carrots. Luckily I don’t have a sweet tooth but when it comes to salty things, it is hard to keep me apart from that kind of stuff. It’s really not a coincidence “carbs” and “carleigh” sound similar ok.

As some of you know, I love to do Kayla Itsine’s BBG program for my work outs. I did find it a little difficult to push myself 100% throughout my workouts because in the back of my mind I knew I didn’t eat much that day and was scared to see how tired I could get. It might’ve just been a mental block, but since I focus on what my body tells me I made sure not to push my body to any extremity during a work out. In fact, I worked out less throughout the week and in exchange, I took my dog Odie on more walks than usual to get my butt moving.

This cleanse really made me feel so hydrated! If I wasn’t drinking one of my juices, I was drinking a ton of water. I know it’s annoying to hear when people ask, “What is your skin secret?” and they answer “I dRiNk a ToN oF wAtEr!” smh. I wish. However, during and after the cleanse my skin has honestly never been so clear. I didn’t have any blemishes throughout the cleanse AND I was glowing! Hellooo natural highlighter.

Some of you may be asking, “Okay well did you lose weight?”. Well… unfortunately I do not own a scale because I don’t really believe in them. (I choose to accept and measure my body based on how it feels. Without the scale to tell me how good or bad I look. I would rather rely on progress pictures and how I feel overall. Here’s more about that, sorry to get off topic.) Anyways, I do feel like I lost some water weight and my body is back to craving healthier foods instead of fast food. It has motivated me to stay on a healthy path and jumpstarted my summer body.



This juicing experience was definitely something I will continue doing, whether that be I strictly do a juice cleanse or occasionally drink juices. I really enjoyed the general feeling it gave me after the cleanse; I just felt more focused and confident. It can definitely be difficult so prioritizing your energy is very important. Also, listening to your body is essential and you shouldn’t be afraid to rest! Next time I try a cleanse, I would really like to have an accountability partner (cough cough, Roberto). It would be so much easier going through this experience having someone to cheer you on or even complain about how hungry you are to one another (misery is company, right? jk juicing is not that bad). And to be completely transparent, I did not go into this cleanse to lose weight but to feel better and lose that extra water weight that made me feel sluggish. Thankfully, I do feel like I accomplished that and if this is something you are aiming at doing it is definitely achievable.
